How to Run a Wedding Rehearsal Like a Pro
Let’s talk rehearsal. It’s one of the most helpful things you can do to make sure your wedding ceremony runs smoothly. We keep it short, sweet, and organized. If you're getting married in Portland, Oregon, or anywhere in the Pacific Northwest, here’s how we run a wedding rehearsal that gets everyone on the same page.
Start with Where Everyone Stands
First things first, who’s standing where. We figure out where everyone is going to land for the ceremony. Your wedding party, your officiant, any family standing with you, we get them all in position. We place bouquets, talk about who holds the rings, and decide how close or far people should be. This part sets the foundation for everything else.
Next Up: Recessional
Once everyone is in place, we walk through the recessional, which is the walk back up the aisle after you’re officially married. We figure out the order of exits, the timing, and who’s paired with who. It’s fun, it’s fast, and everyone breathes a little easier after this part.
Then: Processional
Now we move to the processional, which is the entrance. We get everyone lined up and talk through the flow, who goes first, how long between each person, and what cues they’re listening for. If you’re doing a parent or grandparent entrance, we go over those details too. It’s all about making sure it feels smooth and confident.
Put It All Together With Music
Once the movements are set, we layer in the ceremony music. We practice entrances and exits with the actual songs so everyone knows what to listen for. Your Portland wedding coordinator (that’s us) will help pace it out, give cues, and make sure the vibe matches what you pictured.
At the end of the rehearsal, everyone walks away feeling relaxed and ready for the big day. A Pacific Northwest wedding can have its quirks like rain, uneven ground, or forest paths, but with a clear run-through, you’ll be ready for anything.
As a Rose & Fern Events couple, rehearsal coordination is included in your package!
